Explanation of terms and abbreviations R–Z

Removal of stains
"Detachur" – stains consist of variable substances which can be removed by using different cleaning agents. Here the sensitivity of the subsoil is very important. Even the most effective stain treatment leaves rings on textiles or degreased, dull spots on hard floors. This is the reason why the removal of stains is a pre-treatment before the real floor cleaning (spray extraction or hard floor treatment/coating) is carried out.
A quick removal of stains is decisive before a drying, reaction or fixation with the subsoil can take place. This is done with a suitable "Detachur" agent (in case of shoe cream, tar or grease with RM 769) which is sprayed on the stain with help of a spray-bottle. After that, agent is spotted on the stain with a cloth or a "Detachur" brush until the soiling gets off and moves into deeper material layers or can in case of hard surfaces be wiped off.
To protect the subsoil, please do avoid rubbing.

Resistance
Adaptation and resistance of micro-organisms against their exterminator. Bacteria can adapt themselves and get accustomed to the material with which they should be controlled so that they do not have any killing power against them any more. They aggrandise further on without stopping and constitute a danger. To avoid this adaptation it is advisable to carry out a disinfection with changing products (alternately with alkaline and acid cleaning agents as well as with disinfection agents).

RM
Abbreviation for cleaning agent. "RM" is always written before the code numbers of Kärcher cleaning products like:
- cleaning agents and care products,
- cleaning agents for the protection of machines (HD/HDS, steam cleaners) and for
- Waste water treatment and recycling systems.

Safety data sheets
SDB, material safety data sheet according to EC – an information sheet which has to be created for every chemical which is put on the market according to legal regulations and then to be made available for the customer. The information is for security and protection of persons, things and the environment. The most important contents are data regarding poisons fire dangerousness, transport regulations, first aid measures in case of accidents and data about possible water endangering.

Salts
Minerals – salts result among other things from the reaction of an acid with a caustic solution e.g. sodium chloride is a reaction out of hydrochloric acid and sodium hydroxide.
Salts of the hydrochloric acid are chlorides, of the nitric acid are nitrates, of the sulphuric acid are sulphates and of the carbonic acid are carbonates.
Salts are among other things inorganic substances like oxides (rust) or patina that are preferably cleaned with acid cleaning agents.

"Sinner´scher" cleaning circle
That is saying that four parameters determine cleaning. The reaction time is beside mechanics, chemistry and temperature an important factor.

The four parameters can partly replace each other. This means, that for example higher temperatures allow either cleaning agents' savings or a shorter reaction time. The same is valid if higher mechanical power is used. However, the weighting of each factor depends on the application matter. This means that e.g. sensitive objects are going to set limits on temperature or mechanical treatment.

Spray extraction
1- or 2-step-method for basic cleaning of carpets or textile floor coverings as well as of upholstery. A cleaning agent solution is sprayed into the fabrics. It detaches the dirt from the fibres. Immediately after that or after keeping a reaction time the dirty water is vacuumed. The residue is rinsed through clear water spray extraction.

Surfactants
That is an active agent which consists of a water-friendly part (hydrophilic - which binds to aqueous substances) and an oil-friendly part (oleophilic - which binds to hydrocarbon). This double structure cares for a stable connection between water and oil . This emulsion is on one side precondition for an effective cleaning of oil and greases with water and on the other side a problem for the waste water disposal as in case of stable emulsion ecologically harmful hydrocarbons get into the canalisation and pollute the ecosystem.

2-step-method
The See:"Sinner´sche" cleaning circle is saying that four parameters determine cleaning. The reaction time is beside mechanics, chemistry and temperature an important factor, which is especially used in the 2-step-method.
In case of the 1-step-method all four factors have the same valence at the same time. Cleaning solution is applied with mechanical power as hot as possible and let react shortly. A finishing rinsing step follows this.
In case of the 2-step-method cleaning agent is put on in the first step. This is followed by a reaction time. After that, the second step - rinsing with clear water takes place and if necessary with support of mechanical power or higher temperatures. Cleaning of larger areas, e.g. with HD, normally requires a final rinsing process for the whole area at the end of cleaning. This procedure has got 2 advantages: 1) there is only one exchange of cleaning agent and rinsing with water in the HD-pipes or in the cleaning agents' tank necessary (this saves time and cleaning agents).
2). The waiting period is used as reaction time between cleaning agent and dirt and with this the cleaning intensity is improved or a lower cleaning agents' concentration is needed which saves again cleaning agents. However, it has to be considered that the cleaning agent does not dry out during the reaction time. Generally in many application cases, procedures and cleaning agents both methods the 1-step-method as well as the 2-step-method are possible. The decision is made by the user regarding his local conditions. The same thing is valid for the best reaction time -it lies according to our experiences between 3 and 5 min.
