Living Lakes project
Cleaning is our business, and everything connected with it – e.g. water.

A shortage of water and water pollution are ever growing global problems. As one of the world leaders in the development, production and distribution of cleaning systems, Kärcher is well aware of its responsibility in this respect. In order to put this into practice, Kärcher sponsors the Living Lakes project of the Global Nature Fund. This worldwide partnership serves to promote sustained development and protect our threatened reserves of freshwater.

Solar power station

The solar power station produces about 28,000 kWh per year – enough to cover the annual electricity consumption of six normal homes. This environment-friendly method of generating power avoids about 14 metric tons of carbon dioxide per year. The photovoltaic plant is operated by S.A.G. Solarstrom AG, Freiburg. Kärcher provides the roof area free of charge for 20 year and shares the cost of the plant.

Solar power continues to play an important role at Kärcher. It is planned to build a solar plant for heating industrial water and degreasing baths.

Training and motivating staff
At Kärcher, every member of the workforce is expected to contribute to environmental protection.
Internal environment seminars held during normal working hours enable Kärcher staff to inform themselves about the environmental effects of their workplaces. The subjects covered include emissions and climate protection, waste, water, product-related environmental protection, etc.

Kärcher supports environment-conscious members of the staff in its "Environment-friendly on my way to work" campaign: Kärcher reimburses 50% of the cost to employees who use public transport. Those people who cycle to work can win cash prizes at the end of each year. In addition, Kärcher pays part of the cost of ecological driving lessons for employees.

Commendation
Kärcher has received numerous awards for its activities in the area of environment protection.
